Information on the artist

Arnold Böcklin (October 16, 1827 - January 16, 1901) was a Swiss painter.
Böcklin is best known for his painting "The Isle of the Dead".
It is considered as one of the most important artists 19th Century. From 1845 to 1847 it studied at the Duesseldorfer academy of arts. He worked from 1850 to 1857 in Rome. From 1860 to 1862 he taught as a professor at the Academy of Arts Weimar. Its early work is in the style of the romantic landscape. Its later work is from the classical mythology.
Otto Weisert designed an Art Nouveau typeface in 1904 and named it Arnold Böcklin in his honor.
