Carl Eduard Blechen (* July 29, 1798; † July 23, 1840) was a german landscape painter, born in Cottbus and died in Berlin.
It originated from modest conditions. Until 1815 the painter Christian Gottlieb Lemmrich was its instructor. In the year 1822 it began a study at the citizens of Berlin academy of the arts. One year later it undertook a study trip to Dresden. After its return it received an employment as a decoration painter at the theatre in Berlin. He married 1824 Henriette Boldt. Two years later it was accepted to the citizens of Berlin artist combination. Since 1827 Carl Blechen worked as free lance painters. 1828 it went on 13 months a lasting Italy journey. In its landscapes a new realism shows up. He is the inventor of grandioser light and color effects. 1835 arose first signs of a psychological illness. 1837 had to be instructed Blechen into a hospital. On July 23, 1840 Carl Blechen died in mental derangement.
